Each bloom is set against a black background, allowing its natural symmetry, layered form, and vivid colour to come forward in striking detail. What begins as a flower becomes something more—a work of visual architecture and botanical meditation.
Mandahlia
Beauty in Balance
Mandahlia: Beauty in Balance explores the quiet harmony found in the architecture of the dahlia.
Named after the Sanskrit word mandala, meaning “circle,” the series draws inspiration from both the flower’s geometry and the symbolic grace of the mandala itself—used for centuries as a meditative tool and a spiritual symbol of life’s infinite cycle.
Each colour holds symbolic meaning: pink for love and femininity, yellow and orange for joy and vitality, purple for grace and dignity, and white for clarity and renewal.
Through their form and tone, the dahlias become quiet expressions of emotion—elegance, resilience, stillness, and joy—offering space for reflection and connection.
Mandahlia presents the remarkable diversity of the dahlia genus in all its elegance. Hailing from the mountainous regions of Central America and introduced to the UK in the early 1800s, dahlias are a triumph of botanical structure, with many distinct forms. This series celebrates that natural variation while also exploring the deeper visual rhythm within each bloom: spiral patterns, sculptural poise, and the perfect balance of petal and space.
Contemporary and timeless, these contemplative floral portraits invite not only admiration for nature’s design, but a sense of calm—a reminder of the beauty found in balance.
